Houston, TX – September 20, 2024 - Southwest Public Schools Celebrates Career Growth and Supportive Culture Among Staff

Southwest Public Schools (SWPS) proudly highlights the inspiring journeys of its dedicated staff, showcasing the district's commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a family-like atmosphere.

Leslie Casares, a graduate of Southwest Public Schools, knew she wanted to be a teacher since the 12th grade, inspired by a supportive educator. "When I interviewed at International Leadership Academy, it felt like a family. I love it here," said Casares, now a Kindergarten teacher.

Antonio Melendez, who has spent 17 years with SWPS, expressed gratitude for the guidance he received throughout his career, from Pre-K teacher to Assistant Principal. "I’ve grown tremendously, thanks to the unwavering support of the district," he shared.

Uyen Nguyen, Chief Academic Officer, started as a Special Education teacher, emphasized the deep connection she feels with the students and families. "Serving here feels like I am serving my community. Their journey is my journey," she remarked.

JJ Bishop’s journey from Level 1 Technician to Executive Director of IT and Facilities highlights the district's commitment to professional development. "The belief my colleagues have in me makes me feel special and motivated to succeed," he noted.

Cellie McCoy’s transition from Clerk to Director of Business Services is a testament to perseverance and support. "I pursued my degrees to ensure nothing would hinder my success," she stated, reflecting on her journey. 

Taylor Mitchell, who began as an intern in 2017, credits the SWPS community for her growth. "The constant check-ins and support from my colleagues have been invaluable," she said, now serving as Senior Manager of Talent Acquisitions.

Dr. Felicia Adams, Superintendent of Schools, emphasizes the district's focus on developing talent. "We are intentional about nurturing the individuals we hire, ensuring they reach new heights at Southwest Public Schools," she stated. During Dr. Adams' tenure, SWPS has celebrated numerous internal promotions, demonstrating the district's dedication to the "Grow Your Own" philosophy.
