I am delighted to announce an exciting development within our Southwest Public Schools’ community. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Emily Flores on her appointment as the new principal of Southwest Public Schools College and Career Preparatory Academy.
Dr. Flores brings with her an impressive 24 years of experience as a bilingual educator in urban school districts across Massachusetts, Florida, and Texas. Throughout her career, she has passionately served students and their families in various roles including History Teacher, Teacher Mentor, History Department Head, and Academic Dean. Her dedication to education and her ability to leverage business and higher education resources, along with professional networks and community partnerships, have significantly expanded opportunities for students.
Dr. Flores holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Education from the University of Massachusetts-Boston. She furthered her education with a Master of Science in Professional Studies in Education and a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Capella University. Her deep expertise in adaptive change work, building teacher capacity through coaching, and improving systems and structures continue to be invaluable to our district. Additionally, her commitment to increasing access and equity for student opportunities aligns perfectly with our mission.
Most recently, Dr. Flores served as the Associate Principal of Southwest Public Schools Leadership and Global Studies Academy, where she also supported the Nehemiah Center. Her breadth of knowledge and experience will undoubtedly lead our College and Career Preparatory Academy to new heights.
